1st through 5th grade kids are invited to join us for our FREE Haunted House of Hoops! Presented by boys and girls basketball, kids will participate in the clinic on Thursday, October 29 from 5-7 p.m. at South Campus. Doors open at 4:50 p.m., clinic runs 5 - 6:20 p.m., and a Trunk-or-Treat will take place from 6:20-7 p.m. Be sure to bring a trick or treat bag! Biology students in Ms. Tancil's class were able to take part in a Calorimetry Lab using safety equipment and techniques while learning about their metabolism and Cellular Respiration where food is broken down to get ATP energy to live. They burned different foods and measured the temperature change in the water as well as mass change to use a formula and conversions to calculate how many calories/serving their lab measurements gave compared to the actual calories/serving on the food labels. Students always enjoy this lab!

Fire Science students are learning about building construction, fire dynamics, and smoke reading. As part of a group project, they were assigned NIOSH line of duty death incidents that were caused by a fire behavior phenomenon known as “flow path”. They had to summarize the events, develop critical event timelines, identify contributing factors, make recommendations based on what we discussed in class, and share what critical lessons they learned. They presented their projects to the staff chiefs, battalion chief and duty crew members as a “company level” training. They did an outstanding job!

This week is National School Bus Safety Week and our transportation department, led by director Sloane Dempsay, asst. director Michele Buscemi, and MTA president Denee Robertson, presented at a safety meeting for our drivers. Bus safety is important and going over general safety rules and safety precautions as we head into winter months were discussed. Thanks to all who participated!
