Special Education Department

This is an exciting and challenging time for all of us working at MCHS to ensure that students with disabilities achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to live independent and self-directed lives. Research shows that most students with disabilities can meet high standards when provided with meaningful access and participation in the general education curriculum and appropriate, high quality specially designed instruction and support services. The Department of Special Education works to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities through its roles and responsibilities to:
  • oversee the implementation of Federal and State laws and policy for students with disabilities
  • use research-based effective practices
  • maintain good communication between all stakeholders
  • have parents as active partners

Our mission is to identify students who meet the federal and state criteria as a student with a disability requiring special education and to provide services that empower them to become active members of society based on their individual strengths and abilities. We are committed to providing a caring community of dedicated staff and involved parents that meets the academic, emotional, and social needs of all of our students in a respectful and positive environment.

By providing positive learning experiences that facilitate success for students in special education through high-quality instruction, as well as collaboration with parents, students, schools, and the community, students will focus on their positive attributes and recognize their individual strengths and achievements to promote their future success.
