22 Minooka and Channahon grapplers advance
Minooka Jr High, Channahon Jr High, and the Minooka Little Indians competed this weekend at their respective IESA and IKWF Sectional Tournaments. In total 23 wrestlers from the Minooka/Channahon Area qualified for State.
Thirteen wrestlers from Minooka and Channahon Jr Highs qualified for this weekends IESA State Tournament.
Minooka led the area contingents by crowning three champions at the DeKalb Sectional and qualified 4 others on their way to 2nd place team finish. The titilists included: (100) Bobby Zabel; (167) Jake Potts and (185) Josh Pullara. Finishing as runner up were: (65) Cooper Shimkus, (85) Matt Kelly and (90) Joey Govednik while (95) Colin Nielson was third.
Channahon followed up Minooka's performance by crowning a champion in Matt Meyer (105) and four others also qualified for the state tournament. The other qualifiers were: (112) Dakota Collofello and (155) Mitch Morris who finished second and Corey Bee (126) and Greg Swanson (215) ended up third. Three Indian wrestlers qualified as alternates for Minooka and Channahon including: (95) Harvey Bushby, Channahon; (126) Mike Atra, Channahon and (119) Mike Kammers, Minooka.
The Minooka Little Indians qualified 10 wrestlers to this weekend's state tournament in Rockford. These wrestlers qualified by placing in the top three of the Romeoville Sectional. Sectional Champions for the Indians were: (95) novice - Corbett Oughton; (122) senior - Jacob Residori; (122) novice - Max Brozovich and (138) senior - Kalvin Whitener-Hill. Those finishing third were: (84) senior - Daniel Ruettiger, (101) senior - Jake Deklerk, (101) novice - Jeff Klank, (138) senior - Kyle Smith, (147) senior - Nick Collofello and (177) senior - Zach Blanchard.
