(Minooka) - Minooka Community High School congratulates senior Samuel Bergmann, son of Brian and Wendy Bergmann of Shorewood, for being named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for February.

Academically, Samuel maintains a 4.70 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale), has been named to the high honor roll throughout his high school career, has earned an AP Scholar with Honor Award, has been recognized in Minooka Community High School’s “Student of the Term” Program, and has been named an Illinois State Scholar.

Outside the classroom at MCHS, he is a member of the following teams and student organizations: International Thespian Society (vice-president), Speech Team, Scholastic Bowl (varsity), National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society.

Away from MCHS, Samuel participates in the youth group and is an altar server trainer at St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet and referees for the Shorewood Youth Soccer League.

“Service is where a person’s character is most evident,” Samuel said when asked about the importance of serving one’s community. “It adds more of a human element to charity than simple donations ever could, and it is the simplest way to make the world a better place.”

In the fall, Samuel plans to attend the Seminary Formation Program at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and will major in philosophy and business in preparation to become a Catholic priest.
