(Minooka) - Minooka Community High School congratulates senior Calvin Stiteley, son of Glen Stiteley and Carrie Scholtes of Channahon, for being named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for December.

Academically, Calvin maintains a 4.0 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale), has been named to the honor roll throughout his high school career, has won the MCHS Academic Excellence Award for the past three years, and has been inducted into the International Quill and Scroll Honor Society.

Outside the classroom at MCHS, Calvin has been a four-year member of the MCHS school newspaper (Peace Pipe Chatter) staff and is the editor-in-chief this year. He has also been a member of the boys’ golf team (freshman and sophomore years) and boys’ track and field team (junior year).

Away from MCHS, Calvin works at Dollinger Family Farm in Minooka and plays travel baseball.

“It is important to participate in something bigger than yourself,” he said. “It is a great feeling to know that, through service, you are making an impact on your community.”

“He wasn't an athlete on the field, but CalvinScontributed a lot to a memorable fall sports season for Minooka,” Mr. Matt Thomas, staff sponsor of the Peace Pipe Chatter, said. “He helped bring Minooka's accomplishments, particularly sports, to the masses in a tremendous way.”

“He was the primary reporter live-tweeting football and volleyball games throughout this fall season,” Thomas continued. “His professional accounts of games gained him a following on Twitter, one that other media outlets relied on for news. Calvin dedicated himself to informing the school community about Minooka sports even if they were at distant places like Edwardsville. His numerous articles, photos, and tweets helped create a more spirited school environment throughout this fall sports season.”

While he is undecided on a major, Calvin plans to continue his education at the collegiate level next year. He also plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
