The Brown School was located west of town on Minooka Road. The school was named for the Brown family who lived in the area and may have docated property for the rural school. Above the front door of the school, the words "Standard School" were painted on the metal. This meant the school met certain state requirements, including teachers, textbooks, heating, water suppy and indoor plumbing. The original school building, with its unique belfry, was razed within the past decade.
