District Overview

Minooka Community High School District 111 is a mid-sized school district located in the far southwest suburb of Minooka.  MCHS District 111, totaling over 90+ square miles, is largely comprised of the communities of Minooka and Channahon, and also includes portions of Shorewood and Joliet.  Outside of transfers, students come to Minooka Community High School from three sender school districts, Minooka Community Consolidated School District 201, Channahon School District 17, and Troy 30-C. MCHS District 111 is comprised of two facilities: MCHS - Central Campus in Minooka, and MCHS - South Campus in Channahon. Central Campus houses all MCHS District 111's juniors and seniors, while MCHS - South Campus houses all MCHS District 111 freshmen and sophomores. The district plans to operate according to this "two-two" configuration until its overall enrollment reaches 3,000 students. At that time, the district will seek community approval to begin phase two MCHS - South Campus (athletic and extra curricular facilities, additional academic space, etc.), and also modifidy MCHS - Central Campus. The result of phase two would be two, stand-alone, four-year high schools each with a capacity for 2,000 students, or a total district enrollment of 4,000 students.

Facilities

MCHS - Central Campus (Minooka) opened its doors in the fall of 1970. A major addition was built in 1975 and two years later a Performance Center was erected. In 1994, a 40,000 square-foot classroom addition was completed. Prior to the start of the 1997-98 year, an all-weather, eight-lane track and eight tennis courts were constructed. Additionally, the parking facilities were enhanced and expanded. In 2001, two new additions (fine arts/fitness addition and a cafetorium) were constructed, bringing the physical plant up to 250,000 sq. ft.

In the fall of 2004, two temporary classroom units (each containing two classrooms) were placed on the high school campus to help District 111 address the need for additional classrooms, which resulted from a continued, rapid growth in student population at the school.

In the fall of 2008, the school transitioned to a junior-senior facility and continues to house most extracurricular and athletic activities.

MCHS - South Campus (Channahon) opened in the fall of 2008 as a freshman-sophomore facility. The current facility represents the first of two planned phases. Phase one cost $54.4 million to construct, and sits on 67 acres of land (34 of which were developed for phase one). The facility consists of 88 teaching stations, including specialized classrooms and gymnasium spaces, and has two gymnasiums (one full-size competition gymnasium and one auxiliary gymnasium). The facility has a capacity of 2,000 students.
