Minooka Community High School District 111 is a mid-sized school district located in the far southwest suburb of Minooka. MCHS District 111, totaling over 90+ square miles, is largely comprised of the communities of Minooka and Channahon, and also includes portions of Shorewood and Joliet. Outside of transfers, students come to Minooka Community High School from three sender school districts, Minooka Community Consolidated School District 201, Channahon School District 17, and Troy 30-C. For the start of the 2006-07 school year, student enrollment in District 111 was at an all-time high of 2,111, and all students attend the district’s only school - Minooka Community High School. However, due to rapid residential development in the area, the district recently solicited community support to construct a second high school in the district. For a two-year period prior to the opening of the second school, MCHS will operate on an overlapping, split-shift schedule in which juniors and seniors attend school from 7 a.m. to 12:21 p.m., and freshmen and sophomores attend school from 9:35 a.m. to 3:43 p.m. Once the new school opens in Fall 2008, MCHS District 111 will operate in a two-two configuration in which freshmen and sophomores attend the new school, and juniors and seniors attend the current school. Operation under this configuration will continue until approximately 2014, at which time district enrollment is projected to necessitate a change to operating both schools as stand-alone, four-year high schools.

Facilities
The current high school facility opened its doors in the fall of 1970. A major addition was built in 1975 and two years later a Performance Center was erected. In 1994, a 40,000 square-foot classroom addition was completed. Prior to the start of the 1997-98 year, an all-weather, eight-lane track and eight tennis courts were constructed. Additionally, the parking facilities were enhanced and expanded. In 2001, two new additions (fine arts/fitness addition and a cafetorium) were constructed, bringing the physical plant up to 250,000 sq. ft.
In the fall of 2004, two temporary classroom units (each containing two classrooms) were placed on the high school campus to help District 111 address the need for additional classrooms, which resulted from a continued, rapid growth in student population at the school.
A new school, currently under construction, will open in the fall of 2008 and will house all District 111 freshmen and sophomores. The existing school will house all District 111 juniors and seniors. District 111 will operate on this split-campus configuration until 2014, when enrollment projections point to a need to turn both campuses into stand-alone four-year high schools.
