(Minooka) This fall, Minooka Community High School District 111 will open a new campus located along U.S. Route 6 in Channahon, just east of Ridge Road. In anticipation of this district and community milestone, MCHS District 111 would like to provide residents with a recap of the project’s details and plans as we continue to move into and plan for the future.
When will the new school open?
The new school is scheduled to open on time for the start of the 2008-09 school year. MCHS District 111 will begin moving into the facility this June to prepare for the first day of school in August.
When will details regarding a name/mascot for the new school, transportation boundaries, and extra-curricular programs be decided upon?
MCHS District 111 officials will begin working with the community on ideas for these and other important issues once enrollment nears 3,000 students (projected to occur within approximately six years). As of now, no decisions have been made regarding any of these details. During this initial phase, the new campus is an extension of MCHS, with the same school colors and mascot.
How long will the new school and the current school be able to accommodate District 111’s enrollment needs?
MCHS District 111 will operate according to a “two-two” configuration until approximately 2014, at which time district enrollment is projected to have surpassed 3,000 students. Also at that time, the current high school will be modified. These projects will ultimately result in two, stand-alone, four-year high schools that each house 2,000 students (or a total district enrollment of 4,000+ students).
Will the current school close once the new school opens?
When the new school opens, it will house all MCHS District 111 freshmen and sophomores. The current school will house all MCHS District 111 juniors and seniors. This is often referred to as a “two-two” configuration.
Will there be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new school?
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the new school will be scheduled on a to-be-determined date after the school opens for classes next fall. Specifics on the event will be shared through various communication avenues, such as through local media outlets, in “Connections”, and through the school’s CommunitEmail Program.
