MCHS District 111 Board of Education Approves Course Additions, Changes for 2008-09 School Year

(Minooka) – During its general meeting on December 13, 2007, the Minooka Community High School Board of Education approved several new courses and other changes effective for the 2008-09 school year.

Among the new courses is a double-blocked Algebra I AB class and Read 180.  The algebra class will be a two-semester course for Algebra I students with significant, identified needs in math.  Similar to that course is Read 1980, which will be a two-semester course for grade 9 students with significant, identified needs in read.  Both courses will each result in two credits – one in math or English, and one elective credit.  Other new courses include: Program Design, JJC Principles of Speech, Latin American History, Applied Geology, Sports Literature, Poetry, Woodworking 3, Guitar Studio, and Beginning Band.

Other changes included:

  • Increasing the graduation requirement for science to three years (beginning with the MCHS Class of 2012)
  • Creating transportation (for academic purposes) between the two MCHS District 111 campuses for select courses identified as limited by facilities or program (note – MCHS District 111 will operate in a “two-two” configuration beginning in 2008-09.  The new campus will house all District 111 freshmen and sophomores, while the current campus will house all District 111 juniors and seniors.)

A complete listing of courses for the 2008-09 school year will be published in the 2008-09 MCHS Program Planning Guide.
