Over Forty Percent of MCHS Fall Athletes Earn Scholar Status

(Minooka) – Academic success is a priority at Minooka Community High School.  Student-athletes are no exception to that rule.

Out of the 534 student-athletes who participated in fall athletics this year at MCHS, 222 (42%) earned a first-quarter grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, qualifying them for Scholar Athlete recognition from the school.

“This is a great example of the time management skills these individuals possess,” MCHS Athletic Director Bob Tyrell said.  “They know that, in order to play in a sport here at MCHS, they need to succeed in class first.  The fact that so many of our student-athletes can be successful in the classroom and on the playing field is admirable.”

Listed below are the percentages of scholar-athletes on each fall sports program at MCHS:

Football - 29%, Girls’ Tennis - 56%, Girls’ Volleyball - 63%, Boys’ Golf - 45%, Girls’ Golf - 40%, Boys’ Soccer - 48%, Cheerleaders - 49%, Arrowettes - 50%, Girls’ Cross-Country - 48%, and Boys’ Cross-Country - 47%
