Minooka Community High School to Host Community Session on Gang Awareness

(Minooka) – Many parents wonder if or fear that their child will become involved in a street gang. Some parents fear their children may already be involved in a gang.  For other parents, gang involvement by a child is a new worry prompted by media reports of gang violence and from seeing graffiti painted on neighborhood fences and walls.  Although gangs have existed predominantly in large cities, gang members have moved to smaller towns where they can charge more for drugs and where law enforcement may not be as sophisticated in dealing with drug trafficking.

Minooka Community High School has taken a strong, proactive stance on gangs.  This stance is consistent with that of local law enforcement.  On Wednesday, October 17, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Minooka Community High School invites all members of the MCHS District 111 community to attend a special informational session on gang awareness.  The session, presented by Juvenile Probation Officer Amanda Jezek, will answer common questions about gangs, as well as help parents learn what they can do to help protect their children.

To RSVP for this presentation or for more information, please contact the MCHS Deans’ Office at 467-2140, ext. 197 no later than Tuesday, October 16, 2007.
