Minooka Community High School Seniors to Continue in
National Merit Scholarship Program

(Minooka) – Minooka Community High School congratulates senior David Dosher, son of David and Terry Dosher of Channahon, and Louis Knapp, son of Jerome and Cheryl Knapp of Minooka, on being named Semifinalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program.  David and Louis now join more than 16,000 seniors (from an initial pool of 1.4 million seniors) from across the nation in competing for over 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards.  The awards, worth more than $34 million, will be announced next spring.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship Award, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several requirements.  Close to 90% of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners, earning the title of Merit Scholar.

More than 1.4 million students from nearly 21,000 high schools entered the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as the initial screen of program entrants.  The nationwide pool Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.
