Two Minooka Community High School Seniors Named National Merit Finalists (Minooka) Minooka Community High School Principal Bob Williams is pleased to announce that seniors David Dosher, son of David and Terry Dosher of Channahon, and Louis Knapp, son of Jerome and Cheryl Knapp of Minooka, have been named Finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. Dosher, Knapp, and over 15,000 academically talented high school seniors now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship® awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered next spring. The nationwide pool of Finalists represents less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors. To become a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying test performance, and have already been named a National Merit Semifinalist. The student and a school official must then submit a detailed scholarship application, which includes the student’s self-descriptive essay and information about the Semifinalist’s participation and leadership in school and community activities. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference. Merit Scholarship winners of 2008 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. # # # |
