Minooka Community High School Students Successful Leadership Conference and Competition

(Minooka) – Eight members of Minooka Community High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club participated in the FBLA Northern Area Leadership Conference at Warren Township High School on Saturday, February 2.  The event hosted over 450 students from seventeen high schools.

The all-day conference allowed students to test their skills in their choice of two of fifty-six business-themed events through the completion of written examinations.  While the examinations were being scored, participants were then able to attend development workshops until competition winners were announced.

Four of the eight members of the MCHS team earned place finishes in the competition, including: C.J. Kelly (2nd Place – Computer Problem Solving, 2nd Place – Digital Video Production), Clint Cabrera (3rd Place – Business Calculations), Dylan Jehle (5th Place – Personal Finance), and Rebecca Blasky (7th Place – Job Interview).  Other MCHS participants included Nick Rossi (Business Calculations), Shelby Roman (Business Math), Andy Harvey (Impromptu), and Derek O’Rourke (Business Math).

“Considering the number of students who participated in this event, for us to come away with so many awards is impressive,” offered MCHS FBLA sponsor Wes Anderson.  “Only two of our students had previous experience with this type of competition, so our participation in this event should help us as we prepare for the state competition in April.”

FBLA is the largest business career student organization in the world.  Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
