(Minooka) - Minooka Community High School congratulates senior Lillian Petersen, daughter of Michelle and Brett Petersen of Minooka, for being named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for November.

Academically, Petersen maintains a 4.41 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale), has been named to the high honor roll throughout her high school career, has been named an AP Scholar, and has won the MCHS Academic Excellence Award for the past three years.

Outside the classroom at MCHS, Petersen is active as a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, Interact Club (president), International Club (secretary), Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (secretary), Technology Student Association, and Senior Class Committee.

Away from MCHS, Petersen is active as a member of the Life Group at the Village Christian Church, Heart for Africa, and also volunteers at the Will County Humane Society.

“Service is important because everyone deserves their best chance at life and we need to help each other achieve that,” Petersen said. “When we do this, the world will improve and the quality of life for everyone will increase.”

In the fall, Petersen plans to continue her education at the collegiate level at either Stanford University or Yale University and hopes to major in biomedical engineering and minor in environmental engineering or political science. During her career, she wants to work to provide medical technology for people living in impoverished areas as a way to give them access to medical care.
