Minooka Community High School congratulates senior Matthew Schofield, son of Shaun and Mary Ann Schofield of Shorewood, for being named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for September.

Academically, Schofield maintains a 4.73 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale), has been named to the high honor roll throughout his high school career, and has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board. He is also a member of the MCHS chapters of the National Honor Society (president) and Spanish National Honor Society.

Outside the classroom, Schofield is active as a member of the following teams and organizations at MCHS, including boys’ soccer, boys’ track and field, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering, and Indian Athletic Leadership Club.

Away from MCHS, Schofield is involved with the Civil Air Patrol, Heart for Africa, Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership, and also plays club soccer.

“Participating in community service enriches the volunteer’s character by strengthening values and morals that promote future success,” Schofield said. “For the community, volunteers make sure that people in need receive affordable assistance as soon as possible. This enhances the community as a whole.”

He also stressed that all MCHS students can make a difference within their community.

“There are several clubs at MCHS that have adopted volunteer service and community involvement as a pillar in their organization,” he added. “Joining these clubs and being active in one’s community are very easy ways to make a difference.”

After graduation, Schofield will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he will major in aeronautical engineering.
