Minooka Community High School District 111 utilizes the Connect-ED communication system to personally and rapidly communicate with parents through voice messages and e-mails for emergency notification purposes, as well as to share other important school information with families. Non-emergency calls will be sent only to the primary telephone number and primary e-mail address in your childs information file with our district. Emergency calls, such as school closings, will be sent to all telephone numbers and e-mail addresses in your childs information file. Parents have experienced increased traffic congestion on U.S. Route 6 in front of MCHS South Campus in the morning during inclement weather when more parents drive students to school. While we continue to work in conjunction with the Channahon Police Department to minimize this congestion, we are asking parents to consider the following transportation options: 1. Encourage your child to ride the bus to and from school. 2. Plan your arrival to South Campus between 7:20 a.m. and 7:35 a.m when traffic volume is lower. Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17, MCHS and the Channahon and Minooka Police Departments will conduct a drill of our schools internal emergency response plan. The drill provides us with an opportunity to review this plan with staff, students, and emergency responders so that we are all prepared to act should the need arise. The drill, which will take approximately five minutes, will occur during the school day and will take place simultaneously at both MCHS campuses. On Wednesday, October 14, 2009, all MCHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will participate in the fall session of the schools EPAS testing cycle. On this date, freshmen will take a nationally-scored EXPLORE test, sophomores will take a nationally-scored PLAN test, and juniors will take a locally-scored pre-ACT test. All testing will take place during the first two class periods of the day. Students will then return to their scheduled classes for the final two periods of the day. Seniors will not be in school that day because they will be participating in a college/career day as outlined in a letter mailed to all seniors earlier this month. On Thursday, October 15, classes will resume as scheduled for freshmen and sophomores. However, juniors will use the first class period of the day to participate in an item analysis of the previous days pre-ACT. The 2009-2010 school year at Minooka Community High School will officially begin on Monday, August 17, 2009. The day will run on the A/B schedule as outlined in the school calendar and will allow students to meet all their teachers for both A Day and B Day classes. While this school day will begin at the regular time, please note that school will dismiss by 1 p.m. Please also note that transportation service will be provided to students on this day, but lunch service will not. Seniors will be able to purchase parking permits for the 2009-2010 school year on Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14, from 1:30 3:30 p.m. in the Central Campus Career Center. Students will be permitted to begin lining up each day starting at 8 a.m., as the permits will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that students will NOT be allowed to line-up prior to 8 a.m. each day. Seniors who wish to purchase a permit are reminded of the following: The cost for the parking permit is $100.00 cash or check (made payable to MCHS) only. Proper documentation must be completed in order to be eligible to purchase a parking permit. The forms, which are available on www.mchs.net, must be signed by a parent. Also, the student must possess a valid Illinois Drivers License and carry insurance on the vehicle that will be parked in the school parking lot. Both the Illinois drivers license as well as insurance card must be presented at the time of parking permit purchase. All school fees must be paid in full to date in order to be eligible to purchase a parking permit. Juniors who are attending GAVC during the times that bussing is not available will be able to purchase a parking permit during this time. Permits will not be sold to any student if fees are not paid regardless of their GAVC status. Any remaining parking permits will be made available to juniors through a lottery that will take place during the first week of school. On Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be involved in standardized testing. On both days, students will begin their school day at the normal times. However, on April 22nd, there will be an early dismissal at both campuses, with South campus dismissing at 12:56 p.m. and Central campus dismissing at 1:11 p.m. Please note that seniors will not attend classes on this day.
