Non-emergency calls will be sent only to the primary telephone number and primary e-mail address in your child’s information file with our district.  Emergency calls, such as school closings, will be sent to all telephone numbers and e-mail addresses in your child’s information file.

Parents have experienced increased traffic congestion on U.S. Route 6 in front of MCHS – South Campus in the morning during inclement weather when more parents drive students to school. While we continue to work in conjunction with the Channahon Police Department to minimize this congestion, we are asking parents to consider the following transportation options:

Second Semester

Emergency Response Drill

This is a Connect-ED message from Minooka Community High School for all families.
 
Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17, MCHS and the Channahon and Minooka Police Departments will conduct a drill of our school’s internal emergency response plan.  The drill provides us with an opportunity to review this plan with staff, students, and emergency responders so that we are all prepared to act should the need arise.  The drill, which will take approximately five minutes, will occur during the school day and will take place simultaneously at both MCHS campuses.  Prior to the start of the drill, announcements will be made to remind students that the activity is only a drill and that the school is safe and secure.

Testing at MCHS

This is a Connect-ED message from Minooka Community High School for all families.
 
On Wednesday, October 14, 2009, all MCHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will participate in the fall session of the school’s EPAS testing cycle.  On this date, freshmen will take a nationally-scored EXPLORE test, sophomores will take a nationally-scored PLAN test, and juniors will take a locally-scored pre-ACT test.  All testing will take place during the first two class periods of the day.  Students will then return to their scheduled classes for the final two periods of the day.  Seniors will not be in school that day because they will be participating in a college/career day as outlined in a letter mailed to all seniors earlier this month.
 
On Thursday, October 15, classes will resume as scheduled for freshmen and sophomores.  However, juniors will use the first class period of the day to participate in an item analysis of the previous day’s pre-ACT.
 
On October 15, seniors should not report to school until 9:36 a.m., which is the start of the second class period of the day.

Late Start

There will be a late start to the school day on Wednesday, September 2, as noted in the school calendar.  On September 2, the school day at South Campus will begin at 9:15 a.m., and the school day at Central Campus will begin at 9:30 a.m.  Lunch services will be offered as usual on this day.
 
One other change to note is that all morning bus pick-ups on September 2 will take place ninety (90) minutes later than usual.  For example, if you child’s morning bus pick-up time is usually 7:00 a.m., it will be moved to 8:30 a.m. for September 2 only.

Annual Open House

MCHS invites the parents and guardians of all MCHS students to attend our annual Open House, which will take place on Thursday, August 27, at both MCHS campuses.
 
The evening will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a brief informational session, followed by an open block of time from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., during which you can meet with any of your child’s teachers.  Please note that this is a later starting time than was printed in the school calendar.
 
Because we anticipate a high level of participation at this event by parents and guardians, we ask that you make every attempt to keep these meetings brief.  If you would like to discuss items at length with a specific teacher, our teachers would be happy to schedule a separate meeting with you on a later date.

The 2009-2010 school year at Minooka Community High School will officially begin on Monday, August 17, 2009. The day will run on the A/B schedule as outlined in the school calendar and will allow students to meet all their teachers for both A Day and B Day classes. While this school day will begin at the regular time, please note that school will dismiss by 1 p.m. Please also note that transportation service will be provided to students on this day, but lunch service will not.

On Tuesday, August 18, the first full day of classes will take place with regular starting and dismissal times. Lunch services will begin on this day, as well.

All freshmen, sophomores, juniors are reminded that underclass pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 18, and Wednesday, August 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both schools. Information regarding these photos was distributed to families at the end of last school year and at Freshman Registration Day. Please be sure to bring your completed forms and payments if you plan to purchase pictures. If you need another copy of the picture order information, please visit your school’s main office on Monday. Seniors who did not purchase a senior portrait package can use these days to have a yearbook photo taken.

Junior / Senior Parking Permits

This is a Connect-ED message for all MCHS juniors and seniors.
 
Seniors will be able to purchase parking permits for the 2009-2010 school year on Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Central Campus Career Center.  Students will be permitted to begin lining up each day starting at 8 a.m., as the permits will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please note that students will NOT be allowed to line-up prior to 8 a.m. each day.
 
Seniors who wish to purchase a permit are reminded of the following:
 
The cost for the parking permit is  $100.00 – cash or check (made payable to MCHS) only.

Proper documentation must be completed in order to be eligible to purchase a parking permit. The forms, which are available on www.mchs.net, must be signed by a parent. Also, the student must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and carry insurance on the vehicle that will be parked in the school parking lot.  Both the Illinois driver’s license as well as insurance card must be presented at the time of parking permit purchase.
 
All school fees must be paid in full to date in order to be eligible to purchase a parking permit.
 
Juniors who are attending GAVC during the times that bussing is not available will be able to purchase a parking permit during this time.  Permits will not be sold to any student if fees are not paid regardless of their GAVC status.

Any remaining parking permits will be made available to juniors through a lottery that will take place during the first week of school.

Standardized Testing at MCHS - Central and South Campuses


This is a Connect-ED message from Minooka Community High School.  On Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be involved in standardized testing.  On both days, students will begin their school day at the normal times.  However, on April 22nd, there will be an early dismissal at both campuses, with South campus dismissing at 12:56 p.m. and Central campus dismissing at 1:11 p.m.  Please note that seniors will not attend classes on this day.  Then on Thursday, April 23rd, freshmen and sophomores will be analyzing their test results from the previous day, juniors will be completing their PSAE testing during first and second hour and then resuming their normal schedule, and seniors will follow their normal schedule for the entire day, with the addition of a senior assembly during 2nd hour. All students will be dismissed at normal times.

Re-scheduled Exams, Dates


This is a Connect-ED message for Minooka Community High School families regarding the start of second semester and changes as a result of the cancellation of semester exams on Friday, December 19.

Monday, January 5, 2009, will remain as a teacher institute day as indicated in the school calendar. On Tuesday, January 6, students will report to school to take their 4A and 4B semester exams, which were cancelled on December 19. This day will begin at the regular starting time, will have two 90-minute exam periods, and will conclude at both campuses by 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, will be an A/B Day to allow students to become familiar with their second semester schedules. This day will follow the A/B schedule as printed in students’ handbooks and the school calendar. No lunch services will be provided on this day. Finally, Thursday, January 8, will be a regular “B” day as indicated in the school calendar. Lunch services will resume on this day.

This is a Connect-ED call from Minooka Community High School with several important reminders for students and families regarding final exams.First semester final exams are scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, Thursday, December 18, and Friday, December 19.  Exam days will begin at the normal school start time, will include three, 90-minute exam periods, and will have an early dismissal following the last scheduled exam of the day.  Bus transportation will run at the beginning and end of each exam day.In preparation for exams, all students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to attend a Final Exam Study Session at Central Campus on Monday, December 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The event, which is being organized by the MCHS Student Council, will allow students to meet with teachers and tutors representing each academic department.For more information about Final Exams, please visit www.mchs.net or contact the main office at your child’s school campus.We wish all students the best of luck on their exams, and extend our most sincere holiday greetings to our students and their families.
